Meet Mark
Mark Clauss officially filed forms to seek the District 10 seat on the McLean County Board for the November 5, 2024 Election. Mark is replacing Ross Webb on the ballot. Ross recently withdrew due to an employment opportunity that requires relocating out of the district.
Mark has resided in the Bloomington – Normal area for 30 years, living in District 10 since 2013. Mark grew up on a family farm in northern Indiana and then graduated from Indiana University’s business school with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. After graduating in 1991, he came to Bloomington-Normal and joined State Farm where he still works today. During his career Mark has held leadership roles in numerous State Farm departments. His professional credentials include Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, and a master’s degree in management. Mark is excited to apply his knowledge, skills, and financial acumen to solve local government challenges.
Mark and his wife Janel, a graduate of Illinois State University, have four children. After 18 years Janel left State Farm in 2013 to pursue her passion as a full-time real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. In 2022 Mark earned his real estate license and is now helping Janel grow their real estate business with unsurpassed service levels to clients buying, selling, or simply maintaining their homes.
“My priorities are balancing tax burdens of residents and the corresponding value of services being provided, ensuring economic opportunities for residents and businesses, and maintaining community safety. I am just a concerned citizen, small-business owner, and father wanting to make a positive difference to help McLean County thrive,“ Mark said.
Mark plans to use his data-driven and creative problem-solving skills to work hard building a community where people from all walks of life can find stability and prosperity, a place where the people can be proud to live in McLean County. He is committed to work collaboratively to establish policies that serve the best interests of the greater community.
“The answer can’t always be to raise taxes and throw more money at it, we need to root out waste and inefficiency and ensure we’re making long-term, value-based decisions,” said Mark. Mark concluded saying, “It would be an honor to serve the people of McLean County District 10 where my family and I call home. I relate to a wide variety of people and will advocate for common-sense government for our community.”
